Hashpa'ah
With Meredith Barber
Monday, 8 a.m.
Hashpa'ah (Jewish spiritual direction) is a process for exploring our connection with what we experience as God, Spirit, Truth, Ultimate Values — however we express and understand the sacred in our lives. The subject matter discussed may be the simple activities of every day or a significant or challenging event in the life of the participants. Through these explorations, those engaged in Spiritual Direction try to discern the presence of the Sacred in their everyday lives, work, celebrations, and struggles.

Spirit of Shabbat
With Wendy Galson and Susan Windle
Friday, 5 p.m. (Sept. 19, Oct. 3 and 31, Nov. 14, Dec. 12)
"The Song of Songs," the great Hebrew love poem and an integral part of welcoming Shabbat, can be read, as are the prophetic writings, as a companion to the weekly Torah portions. For this purpose, Rabbi Shefa Gold has divided the song into weekly readings and trained a cohort of her students to carry forward the wisdom, blessings and challenges of "The Song." Ohevet (Lover) Susan Windle and Ohevet Wendy Galson (their chosen titles) invite the community to participate in their Song of Songs offerings for 5786. We will meet on Zoom to teach, chant and share reflections on the week's particular doorway to Shabbat.

Rosh Chodesh
"All who bless the new moon in its proper time are as if they greet the face of the Shechinah." — Babylonian Talmud
With a joyous welcome to all, we offer monthly rituals honoring Rosh Chodesh, the new moon that begins each month of the Jewish year.
These gatherings explore aspects of the divine feminine (Shechinah) and are open to people of any gender who wish to honor our roots in earth-based practices. We let the moon choose the evening of our meeting.
During our Rosh Chodesh celebrations, we review the challenges and blessings of the month that is ending, and welcome the new month with chanting, study, poetry and art-making.
Each session includes contemplative savoring of chocolate, sanctified by our own Blessing for Chocolate: B’rucha at Yah, Shechinateynu ruach ha’olam, sh’hafchah mar l’matok v’natnah bahnu koach l’shanot. Blessed are you, Yah, Indwelling Spirit of the World, who transforms bitter to sweet and makes all transformation possible.
The conveners are chant leader Ohevet Wendy G, Kohenet (Hebrew Priestess) Shoshana B, and poet Ohevet Susan W.
