An Evening with Ali Abu Awwad

Palestinian Nonviolent Peace Activist

Thursday, October 9, 2014, 7:30 p.m.

We were honored to welcome Ali Abu Awwad, internationally-known leader for reconciliation, to Mishkan Shalom’s "Canopy of Peace."

Mr. Awwad is the founder of Al Tariq (The Way), which teaches nonviolent resistance to Palestinian men, women and children. He is also the co-creator of Roots/Judur/Shorashim: the Palestinian-Israeli Initiative for Understanding, Nonviolence and Reconciliation located on his family’s land near Beit Ummar, a village near Hebron, in the West Bank.

He speaks for the esteemed Parents Circle-Families Forum (also known as the Bereaved Families Forum), a grassroots organization whose Israeli and Palestininan members travel the world urging a peaceful solution on behalf of their loved ones lost in the ongoing conflict. His life and work has been featured in two award-winning films, Encounter Point and Forbidden Childhood.

The Parents Circle-Families Forum (PCFF) operates under the principle that a process of reconciliation is a prerequisite for achieving a sustained peace. It was founded in 1995 by Yitzhak Frankenthal and several bereaved Israeli families. Its members conduct dialogue sessions, give lectures, and engage in projects to support dialogue and reconciliation. To learn more, visit the PCFF website.
