Mishkan member David Love, pictured, writes in May 18th's Huffington Post blog, BlackVoices, about POWER's work addressing local issues of racial violence. Mishkan Shalom is featured and Rabbi Shawn Zevit is quoted extensively: "As people of faith, we must exercise our power to help lead this transformation...." Mishkan is described as "a multiracial, progressive congregation in Philadelphia and  an active member of POWER." Read the full article, Philadelphia Congregations Lead in the Struggle for Social Justice, including more comments by Rabbi Shawn.

Rabbi Shawn writes in his blog: "I am honored to have been newly appointed to the co-chair of the POWER clergy caucus with Reverend Mark Tyler. Our first act was to initiate a clergy support and information sharing call the night of the recent riots in Baltimore." Read more about this action in Rabbi Shawn's latest blog entry, Shavuot: Month of Revelation and Release.

The Jewish Exponent recently featured Rabbi Shawn, in a photo with Rev. Tyler and fellow POWER clergy member Rev. Greg Holstein, in Local Jews Join 'Philly is Baltimore' Rally at City Hall. Rabbi Shawn is quoted: “We wanted to be in solidarity with what’s going on in Baltimore, we also wanted to be here as a Jewish community in solidarity with our black brothers and sisters and to fight violence and poverty and systemic injustice altogether....Particularly for me, it’s important to be here with fellow clergy.”

This week, Mishkan welcomes team leaders from Northwest POWER congregations for a progress meeting on current campaigns, including the effort to create a Full, Fair Funding Formula for Pennsylvania schools. The article contains a beautiful video about the school funding campaign, in which a number of Mishkaners appear, including Rabbi Julie Greenberg, Irv Ackelsberg and Rabbi Shawn (and his guitar!) Also featured, speaking, is Rev. Tyler.
