Acts of Caring: G'milut Hasadim
About G'milut Hasadim/Acts of Caring
The Acts of Caring Committee serves to bring Mishkan members together virtually and spiritually and sometimes physically - to share in members’ life cycle events. Acts of Caring has two components:
- a moderated list serve open to Mishkan members to share news of happy and sad events and to ask for prayers or help in times of illness or other need
- a voluntary direct services support network for Mishkan members also known as Hineni (Here I am)
G'milut Hasadim/ACTS of CARING Mission Statement
The G'milut Hasadim/Acts of Caring Committee serves as the communication hub for the congregants of Mishkan Shalom specifically geared towards life cycle events such as birth, marriage, illness or death. Providing an informational network through the Acts of Caring list-serve, the monthly Kol Shalom column and the Acts of Caring/ Lots of Helping Hands website allows members to connect, reach out, celebrate with and support each other to help create the caring spiritual community we cherish at Mishkan by enhancing the interpersonal connections between members at times of both joy and sorrow.
Information relating to significant life-cycle events is shared via the Acts of Caring list-serve and the monthly Kol Shalom column. The list-serve shares news in a timely manner and also sends requests for prayers and shares details regarding shiva minyanim or other life-cycle gatherings to help facilitate community support.
Hineni (Hebrew for "I am here" and pronounced hee-NAY-nee) is a voluntary Mishkan Shalom member support network offering short-term concrete caring in the form of meals, visits, transportation, and errands to members and their families who are encountering life crises due to accident, illness, or other disabling life situation.
When congregants are in need of this help, Acts of Caring coordinators work with congregants to identify needs and then to meet those needs via the Lots of Helping Hands website.
The monthly Kol Shalom column notifies the congregation of upcoming simcha, recent life-cycle news and maintains a list of both congregants and their loved ones for ongoing prayers for healing.
